Day 1 – Toronto
After spending a few days at the Sibos conference in Toronto, I woke up on the 18th October buzzing for the race to get under way. Today was the day all this preparation has been building up to. I had been watching documentaries about the conception of bitcoin in anticipation and I can’t help but be excited to feel a part of something so big, made by the people, for the people.
Once I was up and about, I conducted a few interviews for Fintech Finance before joining the other racers at iGTB’s booth at Sibos.
We took loads of photos and then, just like that, the race had begun. At the sound of the siren, everyone shot off in different directions. The first challenge was to get videos of people wishing me good luck.
As generous as both those offers were, I ended up catching a bus with some help from Abbas, a member of the Bitcoin Bay community in Toronto. Even just in these early stages of the race I am already starting to see how lucky I am to have a currency with such a dedicated and supportive community.
Just before we left Sibos, I received my individual challenge – “take a selfie with a Ohio hat and a souvenir at the Jack Nicklaus museum in Columbus, Ohio”.
